Spoiler from the collection CITY GHOST / laminated offset print on 350g GalerieArt Silk paper. One pack contains a spoiler with loader and 3 clips - ready to use.

  • The city is at its core a blueprint of everything human - a three dimensional manifestation of the human mind. Or to be more precise: an ever growing physical system which at any given moment throughout history has been the exact projection of what we are; as logic, values, knowledge and visions. Seek the core of the city and you will find the essence of yourself.

Art photographer Mogens Elgaard - who holds a double education in both Literature and Philosophy - has for more than two decades been searching for this “human essence” through the lens of a camera – targeting the city.

In his pictures the city we know is gone. The separate elements are well known to us and the surfaces are full of colour and presence. But the purpose is missing; the pulse is gone – there’s no system.

And reflecting on the lack of meaning it all suddenly makes perfectly sense to the spectator – or at least some of it. In order to understand the meaning of Mogens Elgaards art and his beautifully composed city cut outs you shouldn’t be dwelling with the image itself – but with the afterimage it generates. The core of the city doesn’t reveal itself while looked upon – just as the soul isn’t to be found in the mirror. No, the core of the city - the essence of us – is a ghost; the ghost of reflection. The image of comprehension.
